The Dallas Community Hub is the link and the bridge between the community and the school. Our goal is to empower our community members and provide then with information, services and training in their area.
The Hub provides a place for parents where their children and themselves can feel safe.
Our goal is that no matter what age or nationality you are, everyone has the right and the opportunity to learn and not feel isolated in their community.
Our participants have completed courses in:
Positive parenting classes
Certificate II in community support
Food Handlers course
English classes
Computer classes
Currently we are holding Certificate III in Children’s Services.
In Term 2 we will run English and General Maths Certificate I.
U3A hold classes here as well; such as: Camera Club, Scrabble, Tai Chi and art classes.
Outside agencies hire the hub for meetings and courses including Hume City Council meetings and First Aid courses which we can attend.
Guest speakers come and speak to our playgroup mums; such as: Dieticians, Speech Therapists and the school nurse.
The Community Hub hosts Playgroup twice a week.
Lynne Gunning, our Assistant Principal, runs VTU classes at the Hub every week.
Additional courses are held at the Hub which include learning basic Turkish and Arabic for our community workers in our area.
The Community Hub is also used by a Speech Therapist who meets with the Kindergarten children and their parents for assessment.
The Mother Goose program is held at the Community Hub, which involves children in storytelling and songs without the use of books. It promotes oral language, as various and diverse songs and stories are taught and stories and songs from different cultures are shared.
The Dallas Community Hub is open for anyone to come in and have a cuppa and a chat and there are always chocolates and lollies provided.
