'Light'
Our focus for Integrated Studies in Term 2 is ‘Light’. So far we have been talking about what things give us light, how light helps us to see, how light travels, how far light travels. We have also been investigating shadow. We have been working in co-operative learning groups. We take turns at being the director, manager and speaker. This has helped us to move quickly and quietly into our groups, to speak softly, to take turns and to perform as a team.
Number

We are learning to work out addition and subtraction problems in our heads. We are using equipment such as tens frames and MAB to help us learn different strategies for working out problems. Once we can solve number problems using equipment, we will start to picture and solve the number problems in our heads.
One example of the strategies we are learning is “Making ten”. This is how it works:
To solve 7 + 5 = ? We know that: 7+3 =10 so then.. . + 2 = 12
Mathematics
We have been learning about 3D shapes. We have been making 3D shapes and describing the properties of the shapes. We can describe the properties of 3D shapes by naming vertices, faces and edges.
